Before a new produet is brought on to the market a large number of people, including designers and engineers, will have been engaged in the initial design and evaluation to ensure that the produet is of marketable quality.

This book takes a systematic view of the creative process from the original idea to the final and approved design.

Much of the text is devoted to the pre-design stage, emphasising the disciplines that the successful designer must not only acknowledge but also master. The author has adopted an objective but neverthe-less stimulating approach throughout, taking the reader step-by-step through the various stages of design and manufacture, controlling but never stultifying the vital contribution of intuition. amplified by means of graphs and drawings, without allowing the engineering detail to intrude on the logic of the text.
